The Gilbert and Sullivan Lexicon in Which Is Gilded the Philosophic Pill: Featuring New Illustrations
Published in Hardcover by Odenwald Books Publishing (May, 1999)
Average review score:

Everything from Soup to Nuts..The Benford Lexicon, now in a new edition, is simply put, an absolutely essential work for anyone who wishes to understand Gilbert and Sullivan. By using this book, the shellac of years of tradition can be stripped off of performances, and the true wit and beauty of Gilbert, as reflected in the Music of Sulivan, can shine through. It also is quite helpful to the audience member in understanding some of the clever, although now not fully topical, references in these works. (Capt. Shaw, Army-Navy Stores, Knightsbridge, Camberwell a Bower, Peckham an Arcadian Vale... and so forth..)
A Must-Have Resource for All SavoyardsThis book is the first place I turn to with any language question in the wonderful world of Gilbert & Sullivan. Mr. Benford writes clearly and consisely, with a delightful (and occasionally wince-inducing) wit. Highly recommended.

Not only does it feature projects that promote self esteem and creativity, it also is a fun read with plenty of humorous and whimsical graphics and such. Hiking Oregon's History : The Stories Behind Historic Places You Can Walk to See
Published in Paperback by Navillus (June, 2003)
Average review score:

What a Great Book!My husband bought me this book because we're moving to Oregon; I'm thrilled with it, both the book and the move. Mr. Sullivan's writing style is wonderful. It is amazing what this guy knows about every nook and cranny of the state. I am eager to explore the terrain the author describes and look forward to reading his other books on hiking in Oregon. Every travel or hiking book should strive to be as informative and interesting as this one. Alas, its rarely the case. This is a special book.
Wonderful! After moving to Oregon a few months ago, I discovered this gem of a book. While most hiking books will have plenty of information about where to go and what to see, I've never seen one that's just plain fun to read before. The book is full of interesting and amusing stories that will keep you turning pages late into the night. And, even better, the places that are described--you can hike them! One "hike" described is through downtown Portland that describes the flood of 1894 (among other things). Sullivan writes, "Chinese locals staged a gala boat race from the New Market Theater up Second Street to Stark and back on First. Winning time for the eight-block course was five minutes flat, a record that is likely to stand for some time." Last weekend I did the Tillamook Head hike (#11). If you haven't heard the story behind Tillamook Lighthouse located a mile offshore, pick up this book and read about it. You won't be disappointed! It's the best darned hiking book I've ever read in my life!

If You Could See What I Hear
Published in Paperback by New American Library (October, 1983)
Average review score:

upliftingI'm stationed overseas in bosnia, and it can be very boring. this book gave me hope that my life will be better when i get back to the world. we'll see.
A Favorite After All These YearsI gave this book 5 stars because it has to be at least 20 years since I read it last (read it over and over and over then) and I still remember it with a great deal of fondness. My personal favorite has to be his descriptions of spending the summer in Scituate Mass--my mother was great friends with Tommy and his family and this is one of those books that just gives lots of laughs and reflections.

The Inclusive Early Childhood Classroom: Easy Ways to Adapt Learning Centers for All Children
Published in Paperback by Gryphon House (September, 1999)
Average review score:

Outstanding resource for prechool therapists and teachersThis book is a gem--just perfect for occupational therapists, parents or anyone working with special needs preschoolers. The book is organized by various diagnoses as well as specific learning situations found in most preschools-circle time, snack, various centers, etc. The numerous classroom adaptations suggested are outstanding. I work in Head Start preschools where the teachers have limited experience and training with special needs kids. I can't tell you how helpful this book has been.
An incredibly useful tool!As a teacher in an inclusive preschool classroom and a student of special education, I found this book to be exceptionally useful. The authors provide detailed suggestions for adaptations that can be made in all the usual activities of a preschool environment, such as circle time, art, sand and water table, blocks, dramatic play, snack, and fine and gross motor centers. To make the book even more valuable, the authors discuss a number of different disabilities and suggest appropriate accommodations for each activity according to the type of disability. Autism/PDD, ADHD, Orthopedic Impairments, Developmental Delays, Visual Impairments and Motor Planning Impairments are all addressed. For the most part, the proposed adaptations are easily made and quite successful. Illustrations are provided as well, which may help guide a teacher in implementing adaptations of classroom materials and structure. The design and presentation of the book is reader-friendly and easy to follow, and the tone is one that is quite sensitive to the needs of children with special needs.

It Was the Goodness of the Place
Published in Paperback by Fleur-de-Lis Press (June, 2003)
Average review score:

A love story and a mystery in the Bluegrass state! My family just finished reading "It was the Goodness of the Place" by Lucinda Dixon Sullivan and we loved it. Riveting from start to finish and set in a fictional town in Kentucky, the book focuses on the power of love to enthrall, captivate, sustain or destroy. Her characters find themselves caught up in events that change their world. Ms. Sullivan gives her characters vivid and compelling inner lives as each tries to make sense of the inexplicable tragic event that binds them together. Murder or suicide? A madman has the answer. "Place" may be the key to redemption for some but for others it may seal their fate. A wonderful writer has just made her debut with "It was the Goodness of the Place"
prose as poetryLucinda Dixon Sullivan is a spectacular writer.Where has she been? Her story is moving, well writen and perfectly paced. It is one of the books you do not want to end. The charcters in the book are varied and real. While she has her own style it is unmistakably southern but it is the story itself that grips you.

Kennedy Ripples : A True Love Story
Published in Hardcover by Lillian James Pub (01 May, 1994)
Average review score:

What a story!!!I thoroughly LOVED this book! What a love story and what an intriguing style of writing the author uses to move the book along like wild fire. I could not put this book down for a second!! Read it in one night. It also looks at the JFK assassination from a first person point of view like no other book dealing with the assassination. I HIGHLY recommend this book. I wish their were more titles by the same author. You will truly love her unique style of writing...stream of consciousness.
Very intertesting and very believableI believe this author had a good story to tell and it was at a very vulnerable time in our history during the time of the JFK assassination. Her life was in constant danger, not to mention the agony of raising 3 small children practically on her own at the same time. She seduced a priest and ended up in love and broken hearted, now this book tells it all from start to finish. A remarkable true story
